PRCA Xtreme Bulls headed to Lovington, New Mexico

LOVINGTON, N.M. – The PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour makes its inaugural appearance in Lovington on Tuesday, Aug. 7 to kick off the 77th annual Lea County Rodeo. The Lea County Xtreme Bulls tour stop is featured as part of the PRCA’s nationally-televised package on Great American Country (GAC).

Forty of the world’s top bull riders will converge on Jake McClure Arena to take their shot at the prestigious Lea County Xtreme Bulls title. The showdown will include reigning World Champion Shane Proctor, of Grand Coulee, Wash.; 2008-10 World Champion J.W. Harris, of Mullin, Texas; and 2007 World Champion Wesley Silcox, Santaquin, Utah. The contestant field includes an unprecedented “20 out of 20” of the current PRCA world standing leaders, headed by No. 1 Cody Teel, Kountze, Texas; No. 2 Cody Samora, Cortez, Colo.; No. 3 Kanin Asay, Powell, Wyo. and No. 4 Trey Benton III, Rock Island, Texas.

PRCA Xtreme Bulls 2012In another indication of the strength of the field: 13 contestants in the Lea County Xtreme Bulls competed in the 2011 Wrangler National Finals in Las Vegas.

The livestock stars of the Lea County Xtreme Bulls event will include a number of rank PRCA bulls, including: • “5 Itch & Scratch” – Box K Cattle Company. This bull has a 100 percent buck-off rate in 2012. Tim Bingham rode the bull for 92 points in the 2011 Hempstead, Texas, PRCA rodeo. • “95X Cowboy Coffee” – Box K Cattle Company. Chandler Bownds scored 91 on this bull in the Mercedes, Texas, PRCA event earlier this year. • “605 Plaid Shirt” – Wild Card Rodeo Company. ‘Shirt’ has a 100 percent buck-off rate in PRCA events. PRCA judges have graded him at an average of 22.33 points. All 40 riders will compete in a long-go on Aug. 7, beginning at 7 p.m. (MT), and the top 12 will be brought back for the finals, where the Lea County Xtreme Bulls champion will be crowned based on the highest total score.

The payout for the Lea County Xtreme Bulls event is $40,000. Money won at PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour stops count towards the 2012 PRCA World Standings, which determine qualifiers for the Dec. 6-15 Wrangler NFR.

The 2012 Xtreme Bulls Tour will feature events across the U.S., and will conclude with the Tour finale in Ellensburg, Wash., over Labor Day weekend.

In 2012, the PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour will have a combined purse of $465,000. Money earned on the PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour counts toward the PRCA World Standings, which determine Wrangler NFR qualifiers.

The PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour offers a national television schedule that brings the excitement of PRCA bull riding to millions of fans. Great American Country (GAC) Network will broadcast 10 original airings of coverage from the PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour events, including the Tour finale in Ellensburg, Wash. They will be broadcast on Tuesdays from 10-11:30 p.m. (ET).
